Registration Options

Registration & Sanction Requirements

ALL teams must be registered in order to be eligible as official USA-sanctioned teams for the 2023-2024 season.  If your team is based in Wayne, Oakland, Livingston, or Macomb counties, you need to register with USA Softball of Metro Detroit (http://usasoftballofmetrodetroit.org/).  To become a registered team within USA Softball of Michigan, teams will have multiple options for Registration and/or Insurance.  Requirements for all options are as follows...

  • Sanction Fee - ALL teams must pay a $30.00 sanction fee in order to be considered an official team within USA Softball of Michigan, regardless of the level of play.  Sanction fee can be paid by clicking the link listed below
  • Background Checks – Coaches complete background check through registerusasoftball.com. Cost is $19.
  • ACE Certification – One coach must complete ACE certification.
  • Safe Sport – All coaches must complete Safe Sport. All ACE coaches must do Safe Sport first before doing ACE. 
  • MI Concussion Law – Coaches must have completed a concussion training every 3 years.
  • Team Concussion Form - Copy of team concussion form signatures can be submitted at tournament site. 

All coaches, and scorekeepers must be registered on your team and background checked annually, have a concussion certificate on file, and complete SafeSport. If a team only lists one coach, then there should not be any other people helping with the team. This means no unregistered adults should be helping with coaching duties and should not be in the dugout, on the field, or helping with any practices. If you do NOT list all adults that plan to be in the dugout, the team's insurance coverage, if purchased through USA Softball of MI, is not valid, period.

Teams are required to become a sanctioned member of USA Softball of Michigan, however, the requirement to purchase individual team insurance through USA Softball is not required.  Having this option provides more flexibility to teams who may want to play USA Softball, but choose to purchase team insurance through other means.  Still, we believe our Insurance & Registration Options are fair and competitive.  Please see below for what you have to choose from...

Option 1 - Individually Registered/Team Insurance

We recommend individually registering your teams due to the benefit of having coverage when your team plays or practices in any organization, not just USA Softball.  This option requires all of the same coach/team requirements as listed above.  If you wish to individually register your team, you can do so at www.registerusasoftball.com or click the link listed below.  The registration period is September 1, 2023– August 31, 2024.  Payment for this option includes registration & insurance.

Option 2 - Tournament Team Insurance

Teams will have the option to become a sanctioned member of USA Softball of Michigan, without the requirement to purchase individual team insurance through USA Softball.  This option covers only USA Softball sanctioned events and no other associations.

  • 12 & Under Teams - $230.00 (includes Registration & Insurance)
  • 13u - 19u Teams - $270.00 (includes Registration & Insurance)

Teams utilizing this option must complete the following coach requirements to be eligible for play:

  • Background Checks – Coaches complete background check through registerusasoftball.com. Cost is $19.
  • ACE Certification – One coach must complete ACE certification.
  • Safe Sport – All coaches must complete Safe Sport. All ACE coaches must do Safe Sport first before doing ACE. 
  • MI Concussion Law – Coaches must have completed a concussion training every 3 years.
  • Team Concussion Form - Copy of team concussion form signatures can be submitted at tournament site. 

If your team chooses to play in a USA-sanctioned event outside of Michigan, you will need to check their respective insurance requirements.  Also, teams must pay the sanction fee first and then they will receive a username and password from the state office to implement the team insurance option.  Both links are listed below...

Option 3 - Local League/Organization Team Insurance

Teams will have the option to become a sanctioned member of USA Softball of Michigan, without the requirement to purchase individual team insurance through USA Softball.  This option is for local leagues and for organizations featuring four or more teams. 

  • 12 & Under Teams - $150.00 (includes Registration & Insurance)
  • 13u - 19u Teams - $180.00 (includes Registration & Insurance)

Teams utilizing this option must complete the following coach requirements to be eligible for play:

  • Background Checks – Coaches complete background check through registerusasoftball.com. Cost is $19.
  • ACE Certification – One coach must complete ACE certification.
  • Safe Sport – All coaches must complete Safe Sport. All ACE coaches must do Safe Sport first before doing ACE. 
  • MI Concussion Law – Coaches must have completed a concussion training every 3 years.

Teams will have the option to become a sanctioned member of USA Softball of Michigan, without the requirement to purchase individual or team insurance through USA Softball.  This option provides more flexibility to teams who may want to play USA Softball events or local leagues, but choose to purchase team insurance through other means.  Cost to sanction is $30 per team.  Teams sanctioning must complete the following coach requirements to be eligible for play:
