CONCUSSION TRAINING FOR UMPIRES

A new Michigan Law went into effect on June 30, 2013 called “Heads Up Concussion.” USA Sotfball of Michigan  is proactive and we are requiring all of our umpires that will be umpiring youth games to take the Concussion Training. There is no cost for this training. You must go to one of the following Web sites:

Once completed, the certificate needs to be printed and sent to the USA Softball of Michigan State office. Please indicate umpire when sending the certificate. Michigan State Law requires us to keep these certificates on file.

This training is required every three years. If you have completed the training previously, send us a copy of the certificate. Updated certificates will remain on file with USA Softball of Michigan as long as you remain an active umpire.

SafeSport Requirement for Umpires

In December 2022, our State UIC, Bryan Smith, and the state staff made the decision to require that only those umpires that are working youth (JO) softball, MUST complete SafeSport.  This includes local recreation leagues and travel leagues.

ALSO

Umpires that are either umpiring, are umpires in chief, or umpire coordinators at the youth JO and adult qualifying, state, and national tournaments MUST complete SafeSport training.

The State Umpire Staff will be verifying that all umpires are compliant prior to the tournaments.

ALL DISTRICT UMPIRES IN CHIEF will be required to be Safe Sport compliant and background checked by February 1st of 2023.

The SafeSport training is available once your background check has cleared.

When you are logged from your Welcome Back page you will need to scroll down to the tabs at the bottom of this page. When you click on the SafeSport tab, you will click on the Click Here to Start Now. This will take you to the SafeSport website.

For all other umpires, the SafeSport training is optional and recommended.
